Managing our lives during complex times is often a challenge. But when difficulties with mental health arise, carrying out everyday responsibilities can seem almost impossible. When this happens, the mental health staff at Southwest General Hospital is here for you—to listen, to educate, and to help you feel better as quickly as possible.
Southwest General offers a variety of programs for adults including Adult Behavioral Health, Senior Mental Health, and outpatient mental health programs. Our staff includes a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, advanced practice nurses, registered nurses, psychiatric counselors, social workers, and activity therapists.
Mental Health Outpatient Programs
The Mental Health Outpatient Programs are where we meet the very special needs of our patients eighteen years and older and their families every day. Programs include:
- Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
- Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
- Chemical Dependency (Co-Occurring) Intensive Outpatient Program (CDIOP)
These programs are designed as alternatives in inpatient hospitalization. They provide structured daytime treatment for individuals who need more rigorous care for psychiatric symptoms rather than traditional outpatient care, yet who are stable enough to return home each evening.
- The Partial Hospitalization Programs typically occur 4-5 days per week, 6 hours per day
- The Intensive Outpatient Program occurs 3 days per week.
The services are time limited and conclude when the patient’s immediate problems are stabilized.
Our program offers psychiatric assessments and treatment, specialized nursing, and medical evaluation. We attempt to prepare our patients for life after they are discharged by providing aftercare services and medication management, as well as follow-up planning.
